We fish from ashore with the kids. Johannes got a Carp bream and a couple of minutes later Siri got one! The first video is quite funny :-)

We caught a flounder that weighed almost a kilo (980 g) in our net. This is Johannes holding the flounder. The easiest and best (?) recipe for flounder is to smoke it. You just need some salt, a smoker and the fish!

Salt and butter that is all. We did make soup of the rest and I think that´s even better than the owen rainbow trout.

Fishing - no fish just rain...

We went fishing with Johannes to our regular fishing spot. It was raining and we did not see any signs of fish. I tried many different lures, but we had to give up after 3 hours because I wasn´t prepared for the rain as good as my son (Johannes).

At this fishing spot we usually get a small pike within the first hour or so. No luck this time :-(

Ice Fishing Safety

I just want to remind you people living in northern climates that fishing, working or playing on the frozen surface of the sea, a river or lake can be dangerous. Knowing how to fish safely on the ice can be a matter of life or death. What to Remember when Ice Fishing
Include items for testing and measuring the thickness of the ice. A do not forget items for rescue or self-rescue. It is good to carry a couple of large nails and a length of light nylon rope. If you should go through the ice, the nails could help provide a "grip" on the slippery surface and aid in getting out from the water.

Other Things to Remember
If you end up in the water do not panic and once you are out of the water and are lying on the ice, don't stand! Roll away from the point where you broke through until you are on solid ice.

Be especially wary of river ice, as it can be highly variable in thickness.

California Trout Defeats the Pombo Bill

Dear Fellow Angler,

California Trout has launched a new online advocacy program to enable anglers, sportsmen, and other concerned Americans to weigh in on key issues that affect wild trout, steelhead, and their waters throughout California.

California Trout is actively working to defeat the Pombo bill, which would do lasting damage to the Endangered Species Act. They hope you'll help them build a groundswell of grassroots opposition. More info on the web site.

Fishing in Finland

Late October fishing in Finland. 8 men went fishing for a weekend. The catch was 23 pike and 3 perches. The pikes were all quite small and we released most of them.
I got a pike that was 3 kilos (6.5 pounds) and that one I took home to the family. One of the perches was 700 grams (25 ounches). It was the biggest perch I have ever seen.

We tried wobblers and spinners, but the spoon was definitely the lure to use. I got two pikes with a Abu Garcia Atom and one pike with the legendary Abu Garcia Toby.
